“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” (Matthew 25:40)
Throughout POP’s history the organization’s call from God has been simple: serve the underserved. Serve and care for those within society who are often neglected, overlooked or forgotten, i.e., the sick and suffering and dying.
In 2014, the King, as Christ is referred to in Matt. 25:40, opened POP’s eyes and heart to a large subset of the sick and suffering who, despite the tremendous and faithful work of chaplains visiting patients throughout the city of Houston, remained neglected, overlooked and underserved; Spanish-speaking patients. This population, through the Spirit’s divine work, came to weigh heavy upon POP’s heart. Through prayer and reflection, the POP Staff heard Christ’s clarion call to act, as well as His promises that, as ever, He goes before us and with us into the harvest fields.
In His perfect timing, God did as He promised, bringing about a pathway through local churches with Spanish-speaking congregations to train more individuals than just POP Staff Chaplains. In the Summer of 2022, POP trained 23 of Christ’s beloved from San Pablo-Trinity Presbyterian Church and Iglesia Fuente de Esperanza, an active worshipping community of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church.
As this ministry develops, join us as we watch how God cares for the many soulful expressions in the first languages of His people.
